My name is JJ Mayo and I’m an endurance athlete, a sports science professor, and a registered dietitian.

Why Fuel For Endurance?08-026_Hendrix_0935.jpg
I believe that nutrition is the missing link for many athletes (especially runners). Even the best training plan will only take you so far.

Unfortunately, many athletes don’t know where to start when it comes to putting together an effective nutrition plan. Don’t feel bad, I didn’t either when I started competing in endurance events.

And for good reason. There is A LOT to consider…like calorie needs, what to eat before, during, and after exercise. What about daily fluid intake? And is there an optimal body fat percentage for peak performance?

It can be a daunting task to figure all of this out by yourself. Know what…you don’t have to because I want to help.

This blog is for you if….
• You want to improve race times, set a PR (personal record), lose weight, or just eat more nutritiously.
• You enjoy endurance sports like running, cycling, or triathlon, etc..
• You want to keep up with the latest research in the field of sports nutrition.

Who am I?IMfinish.jpg
With over 20 years of experience in the fitness and nutrition industry, I have had the privilege of writing ~ 50 articles on fitness and nutrition-related topics over the years (see samples about Glycemic Index or Sports and Energy Drinks).

I’ve also been quoted in magazines like Bicycling Magazine, Men’s Health, and US Weekly. I speak regularly on sports nutrition topics to triathlon & running clubs, as well as at various nutrition and fitness conferences.

Like many who start out in endurance sports, I did so to lose weight. At my heaviest, I weighed 200 pounds (yikes!). I am now a 9x Ironman who also has multiple ultramarathon finishes. In 2013 I qualified for the Boston Marathon. With drive, determination and a little help you can get their too!

My Favorite ClientJayme.png
Well she’s not a client really, she’s my wife and best friend Jayme. Before we met, she was what some would call a ‘hobby jogger’, occasionally signing up for 5k or 10k on a whim.

I am proud to say that she now has a love for all things endurance. A big part of her success has been dialing in her nutrition so that she can finish her races with a smile.

She now has 7 Ironman finishes and multiple marathons and ultramarathons to her credit!
